Overall Purpose of Job:
- The post holder will be working in a busy Adult Mental Health Service.
- To provide leadership, case management, guidance, support and expert advice to social care staff, internal / external partners as required, maintaining the highest level of professional service.
- To provide direct line management to social care staff to include but not restricted to Practice Managers, Senior Practitioners, Social Workers and Support Workers.
- To be accountable for the efficient operation of services and the overall quality of practice within the team, and work closely with quality assurance colleagues to continuously develop, improve and audit care standards.
- To contribute to the development, delivery and review of planning, performance, commissioning and governance of services so that overall costs are reduced but the life chances of adults are maximised.
- To develop robust mechanisms to ensure clear communications of service plans, objectives and service changes with the team, ensuring that staff are engaged directly in any review and with the development of services.
- To deliver the key strategic aims of the organisation and to ensure that the customers of Newham have access to high quality services.
- To take operational management responsibility in the planning, directing and performance management of work within the mental health service.
- To ensure that a socially inclusive approach is delivered by the service that is recovery and enablement focussed.

We are looking for outstanding HCPC qualified Team Managers. You’ll be responsible for driving best practice in the Council and with our partners.
You can also expect to play a key role in the changes we are making across our customer pathway including our focus on integrated services and promoting and sustaining independence via our enablement approach.
You will be working as part of a team, providing effective, efficient and personalised statutory review service for our customers and their Carers.
Your leadership and management skills will enable our vulnerable residents, their Carers and families to maximise their choices, control and independence.
If you share this vision of excellent social work practice, we want to hear from you. We are seeking a qualified and suitably experienced professional with a minimum of two years management experience in Mental Health. This is a qualified social work management post, so you’ll need to have a social work qualification and be registered with the HCPC.
You will need substantial experience of leading a busy Social Work team and working directly with vulnerable adults and their Carers, including a full range of statutory social work tasks and experience of managing a range of complex issues. You should have up-to-date working knowledge of the Care Act and associated legislation, best practice guidance and regulations and be skilled at building relationships with both stakeholders and colleagues.
This is a qualified Social Work post, so you’ll need to have a Social Work qualification and Registration with HCPC.
